The Imperial Table – A Floral Design for Dinner

An imperial table is one of the most striking ways of bringing guests together around a single long table. I approach it as a continuous floral composition that runs along the table without obstructing sightlines or conversation. Flowers, foliage, candles and light need to work together while leaving enough space for plates, glasses and service.

When I design an imperial table, I begin with practical proportions: table width, flower height, place settings and the position of candles. The aim is to find a balance between visual impact and comfort. It is an artisan process in which design, materials and logistics have to work together, both in photographs and throughout the dinner.
