Florence and the perfect spring of flowers

The city that blossoms every year, between art, nature and beauty

There's one season that more than any other captures the soul of Florence: spring. A time of rebirth, of colors and scents that have been intertwined with the city's identity for centuries. In this article, we take you

on a journey into the floral heart of Florence, through history, art, and symbolism, to discover how flowers—especially the lily—are an essential part of its spirit.

The flowery myth of Florentia

Florence was born in bloom, literally. According to one of the most evocative founding legends, the Roman colony of Florentia arose on the plain between the Arno and Mugnone rivers, spontaneously dotted with pale irises—the Florentine Iris alba—which inspired the city's very symbol: the lily. It's no coincidence that the cathedral is dedicated to Santa Maria del Fiore , that March 25th—the date of the Annunciation—was considered the Florentine New Year, and that the white lily is present in every corner of the city.

Renaissance and “perfect spring”

It was Lorenzo the Magnificent who promoted a powerful and poetic idea: Florence as a flourishing city , in peace, art, and beauty. In the Medici gardens, floriculture found its highest artistic expression. Botticelli's Primavera is the perfect symbol: the flowery meadow, the figure of Flora, the dance of the winds and the seasons... everything speaks of rebirth, harmony, hope. A cyclical and triumphant spring , which returns each year—like flowers—overcoming the adversities of winter.

Flowers in Florentine culture and art

From Giotto's paintings to the Medici's semiprecious stone mosaics, to Ginori porcelain and Ferragamo and Gucci scarves: flowers are everywhere , a constant inspiration for artists, artisans, and designers. Each bouquet, each petal is a fragment of Florentine beauty, a detail that speaks of care, harmony, and a passion for beauty .

And today? That legacy lives on, in the dreamy bouquets we create for weddings and large events in Tuscany, bringing a new "perfect spring" to every celebration.

Why choose Florence and its flowers for your wedding

Getting married in Tuscany is an unforgettable experience. But choosing Florence and its flowers means something more:
