A Circle That Speaks of Eternity
An engagement ring is much more than a piece of jewellery: it is a small circle of metal that holds a promise of shared life. In the gesture of placing it on someone’s finger lies the idea of something with no beginning and no end, just like the path a couple decides to walk together. Like a flower that buds and grows over time thanks to care, attention and presence, the ring becomes the visible symbol of a feeling that asks to be tended day after day, whether in an art city like Florence or among the quiet landscapes of the Tuscan countryside. In my work as a floral designer in Florence, I often see the ring and your first wedding floral arrangements as two complementary signs of the same “yes”.
From Ancient Egypt to the Modern Solitaire: A Centuries‑Long Story
The origins of the engagement ring go back to Ancient Egypt, where small circles of reed or natural fibres were used to represent eternity. Later, the Romans chose iron, a material linked to strength and stability of the bond. In the Middle Ages, the first rings with precious stones began to appear in European noble families, right up to the famous diamond ring given by Archduke Maximilian of Austria to Mary of Burgundy in 1477. In the centuries that followed, jewellers such as Tiffany turned the solitaire into an icon, making that small diamond mounted on a ring the quintessential symbol of a promise of love. Today, between Florence and the Tuscan hills, that same symbol continues to accompany proposals, promises and weddings.
Ring and Flowers: Two Languages for a Single Promise
If the diamond tells the story of something meant to last, flowers speak of the living beauty of the moment in which that promise is made. This is why, when I think of a proposal or a promise in Tuscany, I always imagine the ring accompanied by a floral gesture: a bespoke bouquet, a small composition on the table, a botanical detail in a villa or village among the vineyards. The jewel represents the eternity you desire; the flowers tell of the tenderness of the instant when everything begins. Together they create a complete picture: something that remains on the finger and something that lives on in photographs, scents and memories, within a wider floral design in Tuscany.
From Proposal to Altar: A Continuous Thread of Symbols
The engagement ring is often the first concrete symbol of your “yes”, but it is not the only one. In my work at La Bottega dei Fiori in Florence I like to think of the floral design as a natural extension of that first gesture: the first flowers chosen for the proposal, a small bouquet for the civil promise at the town hall, through to the bridal bouquet and the scenography of the wedding day. Colours, shapes and varieties can create a subtle thread accompanying your whole story, from the first photographs with the ring to the ceremony in a Tuscan villa or a city church. In this way, jewel and flowers stop being separate elements and become chapters of the same tale of wedding floral arrangements in Tuscany.
Designing the Floral Frame Around Your “Yes, Forever”
If you are thinking of a proposal among Tuscan villages and vineyards, or are beginning to imagine your wedding, we can build together the floral frame that will accompany this ancient symbol in a personal way. In my Florence workshop I work by appointment to listen to your story, the chosen place, the season and the kind of atmosphere you desire: more intimate, more scenic, more essential. From there, a bespoke project takes shape, in which the ring finds its natural place beside the flowers, and your promise takes form not only in a jewel, but in a landscape of colours and scents designed for you.
If you feel that your “yes, forever” deserves flowers that speak the same language as your ring, everything can begin with a calm conversation in my Bottega in Florence or at a distance. I work by appointment as a floral designer in Florence, creating floral design in Tuscany that connects proposals, promises and wedding floral arrangements into a single, coherent story. Together we can design a project in which jewel, places and flowers mirror the way you wish to live and remember this commitment.
